This at this point in time is just a possibility

Stage One:
Introducing the characters Toby (the young teen) is coming home from school looking a little down, Vex flies down to meet her and have a little chat Toby had promised to go to the park with Vex and Vex is nagging at her. it is clear to Vex something is Bothering Toby however she can not find out what is wrong. meanwhile they are being watched

Stage Two:
Vival and Noctus burst out of the shadows with general bad guy banter. They demand they hand over a certain item their boss needs after the protagonists refuse they summon a monster (low class) and attack.
They battle and Vex and Toby combine forces to beat the bad guys

Stage Three:
The Antagonist slink of and Vex found out what was bothering Toby, she had been feeling as if she was useless and no one wanted her, (basically bullies at school messing with her) Then she says she realised that Vex need her and Vex confirms that calling her a dork for not knowing it.

Chosen AnimatorGuy Capper

Guy Capper has animated various award winning commercials, however His most notable animation is The Pen, which consists of two sheep in a bar. It debut took place in 2001 and won an award.

His work from what I have found was well received as the competition that he entered his stop motion animation, the Pen into won first prize.

The award that the animation "The Pen" won or shared as it was described was from the trans-Tasman Nescafe Short Film Awards.

Star vs. the forces of evil
Sailor moon.

The Narnia books
Harry Potter
Warrior Cats
Percy Jackson

I have already known what i will be creating for my comic, it will be about a young child struggling to get back home after going out and getting caught in the blizzard, they will be riding one of my creatures known as a Hercasson, which later in the story will be killed off as it will make the feeling of isolation and the struggle of getting home more dire,
Also if Disney can kill of Mufasa I can kill of a Hercasson

Story Update

Possible Titles:
Render
Under the Wing

 Plot:
Monsters and beasts are gathering magic energy to take over their world, Vex at the time was working for them, She ended up betraying them and stealing a valuable object (something like a focusing Crystal) during the fight of her escape she was stripped of her powers. She was banished or mistakenly cast into another world as were her stripped powers.

The powers ended up sealed inside a young teen, Vex now decided to hang around until she is able to get her powers back, (I'm possibility going to have the teen hold onto the item that vex stole a reason could be that she would be better at hiding it as she can hide it under her clothes (said item is pretty small)).

The Main bad boss of the Monsters is sending lower class monsters to retrieve the small item (this will end up playing out as a monster of the week style, that is common in kids T.V) The time that the short film will be set in is one of those days, it will be set past the time that the teen and Vex have bonded and are now friends.

The Two minor antagonists which will be present in the short film.

Vivval -
a chirpy and crazy little ditz who cares for her brother - scared of him hating her

Noctus -
Angsty, scared of failure

The Teen:
Possible Names:
Aster, Toby, Luta, Rawn

Personality: Low self asteem , sarcastic, just trying to get through school life, is bullied She acts like she doesn't care but in the end insults do get to her,

1900 Animation PP-summery

The film Industry in the 1900's, They were black and while and had a short run time, even so for the time period this was seen as very impressive. Before the 1900's Film was taken in a photographic sequence and sometimes put on some sort of wheel spun, to create the illusion of movement even in ancient times like ancient Greek bowls and cups were shown to have multiple images showing the movement of a subject

The first recorded animation in the 1900's was a stop motion advertising matches, advertising that their soldiers needed them and that they needed donation to do so the impact the stop motion had a long lasting effect on the public.

The Lumieres brother are the people who boosted the use of film in society, they shot films at 16 and have been credited through history to be the first people to make a breakthrough in the Film industry.

Thomas Edison, on contrast to the brothers made films with a person as the center of the scene.

(not much might update when I find the power-point again)

Reserch essay Review

Practice based reserch

1) In what way does the animated film according to Benshoff "occupy a usique niche in the history of twentieth century popular art"?

Benshoff claims that animated film occupies a unique niche in history as it combines various techniques of art within the film. It was a hybrid art form

2) Who is Donald Crafton and why is his assertion that the animated film can be traced to the visual features of fin de secle newspapers significant in the context of Benshoff's argument?

David Creafton, was a University professor and the founder of the Yale film study center, his significance within the essay is telling that animation originated from a low art source in old newspapers.

3) Describe in what ways you think the origins of the animated film can be traced back to visual features of "political caricature, illustration and the comic strip" and how this supports it association with "traditional commercial (low) art?
Political cartoons have been a solid part of history, through various newspapers, which if looked into, various news articles over the decades that is, they can be found, that has always been a common way of drawing attention, by the use of an image or comic.

4) Who were: Leopold Survage, Hans Richter, Walter Ruttmann and Viking Eggeling? Locate and example of the work of each and explain why you think they are described by Benshoff as "high art practitioners"?
Leopold Survage -
He saw abstract art as a challenge to traditional art, his intentions within his abstract art was to animate his paintings.

https://www.wikiart.org/en/leopold-survage/untitled-1953

- Hans Richter
Hans Richter was one among a few creators who first delved into the concept of abstract film, he began with normal abstract art but later transitioned to film.

Viking Eggeling -
Artist and film maker who has made various abstract films
He has also collaborated with Hans Richter

Walter Ruttmann -
Wa;ter took to abstract film little under 20 years of its begining, before hand he created works of art about expressionism.

https://oss.adm.ntu.edu.sg/a140111/tag/marcel-duchamp/

Benshoff described these people as"high art practitioners" by this he meant that the artworks they created are deep in meaning and thought works that are of high art make you think and delve deeper into the meaning of and behind the artworks.

5)  In what way does looking at "political caricature, illustration and the comic strip" and works by Leopold Survage, Hans Richter, Walter Ruttmann and Viking Eggeling demonstrate that "the animated film had the potential to develop as either a high or low art form"?
With art work there is such a variety that can be created there is no limit, whether someone want to create a deep thinking abstract art to pull at the minds strings or whether someone wants to create something fun to simply be enjoyed, by talking about various art from political caricature to abstract artist Benshoff demonstrated that film has the potential to be something low art for people to enjoy or high art for people to think and wonder about.

6) In what way does Benshoff suggest the animated film in America as different and how does this situate the American animated film within the "mass culture industry"?
He suggested that America is different in that they had Maximized the  consumer appeal, through marketing and production. They had started out as a small cottage and over time had extended into a full blown industry.

Messing around with form

Experimenting with face shapes and different ways to draw characters

Princibles of Animation

The twelve principles of animation were created as simple guidelines for new animator to make the job of animating more simplified.

Principle 1) Squash and Streach
While in real life object such as a basket ball do not squash down to a pancake within animation it helps convey moment and character giving the animation more moment, life and character.

Principle 2) Anticipation
This principle prepares a character for a future action, for example if a character were to jump, they would bend down first to be able to jump up high, it wouldn't be logical for someone to jump without any build up.

Principle 3) Staging
Placement of character and frame can have a huge impact on the mood and meaning in a shot, the way a character is presented can tell a lot about them how they are first introduced this is a way of complementing the character and what mood you want to set within the scene.

Principle 4) Straight ahead and pose to pose
Pose to pose is a very helpful technique as it helps reduce the room for error and drastic style change within a scene, it evolves drawing the base poses of a scene then animating the in between, it is a useful process for new and old animators as it makes character consistency much easier. Straight ahead is more tricky, it evolves animating frame by frame without working between frames, only going to the next frame then the next creating motion, however the problem with this is that it is easy to mess up, for example at the start of a scene your character has short arms by the end they might end up having long arms.

Principle 5) Follow though and overlapping action
When animating it is important to take the weight and mass of a character or object into account, a human who is running wont just stop suddenly they will slow down, skid or some other motion to decrease energy of movement, this principle helps the character in become more realistic more lively and believable as a person who is there living and breathing.

Principle 6) Ease in, Ease out
In animation the more frames you have within a scene means the slower the movement of a character is, on the flip side the lesser frames within a scene gives the illusion that a character is moving fast, to give the illusion of fast movement fewer frames are created withing the center or middle of an action that is performed.

Principle 7) Moving in a Circular Path
This principle helps the flow of movement withing a frame making a character look more natural

Principle 8) Secondary action
Secondary action is focusing on something such as a tail or hair, this is something that is not focused on while the main body of the animation is in progress, the secondary action is a followup of a big action, for example a jump the main body will jump and the hair, the secondary action will follow after the main action.

Principle 9) Timing
Timing is figuring out how many frames are needed for a certain actions or within a scene. The more complicated a scene and the more faster means fewer frames while a slow moving scene will require more frames

Principle 10) Exaggeration
Exaggeration help create lively and fun characters, it takes something and pushes it close to the edge to create clear and at times comedic scenes. It also takes an important role in storytelling emotions and actions drive a story not dialog alone.

Principle 11) Solid Drawing
When animating a character it is important even for a two dimensional character to be proportionally accurate, it gives the character visual depth, and make the world they are in more believable

Principle 12) Appeal
To have a successful animation you need to create a character that will tug at your audiences interest a character that the audience will admire, connect to or find intriguing. If you have a character with no traits the film will simply be bland and fail to draw peoples attention.

Basic Shaddowing

More Exploration

This is just going to be a little more exploration into some of my idea for my previous post along with some sketches.

1) Everyday Life of a Dragon.
A story would most likely focus on how they adapt or live in a modern world or how things differ from normal for example, how would they sit in a chair or would it be special made for a dragon, do they have cars? air traffic? theese things would be explored within a plot.

3) Centaur Central
Instead of focusing on a human and a centaur it would explore how a centaur lives in a modern world, their problems, limitations, the story could even be just a world made of centaurs alone, with a pecking order, such as ponies are on the lower scale while horses are on the higher, some centaurs could even consist of non-horse lower halfs

4) Charger
No plot development yet but some concept art has surfaced.

5) (Untitled)
I still have yet to come up with a title, though as of now I don't have ideas yet.

This story will be about a small dragon, Vex, living with a young teen, Vex was once a powerful dragon Deity but due to an event (yet to be created) was stripped of her power and banished to another world, somehow (yet to find reason) her power was also sent to the world she was bannished to which somehow found its way into a young teen, Vex now lives with her while trying to find out how to get her power back, while causing chaos everyday.

I am thinking of the reason her power was accident  sent to the world as well is that her power is sought after by evil creatures, this could also have a part in a plot as the creature would still go after the teen for the power, It might not be the focus of the short film or it could be merged with a slice of life topic that however at the moment is just a possible idea.

Possible Ideas

I have several Ideas to propose for my storyboard, two of them being most likely to be created then the other however i will write them all down.

1)
Everyday Life of a Dragon
This story would consist of a slice of life story consisting of dragons in a modern world, those dragons would be in the place of humans as I would want the dragons to be the main focus of the story, the dragons would live a human like life and have everyday problems to deal with.

2)
Baby Beast
This story would consist of a newly hatched creating exploring the world around it it has just come into.

3)
Centaur Central
This story would focus on the life of a centaur and a human living in modern life the only diffrence is that centaurs along with other magical races exist, it would be a slice of life of a human and centaur dealing with their everyday problems.

4)
Charger
This story is one that I have had for quite a while, the story begins with a charge (small ball that contains electricity) runs out, the father sends the child out to gather the freshly charged orbs, the cild mounted upon her Hercasson (race of my own creation) travel across the icy wasteland the story is set in, after gathering the newly charged orbs and putting out the empty ones she makes her way home, but on the way things take a turn for the worst. Her Hercasson slips and dies and she is stalked by a blood thirsty monster, the main body of the story is her finding her way back home. (the Creature to the left is the Hercasson)

Image found on google

5)
(untitled)
A small magic dragon makes the life of a school girl difficult, however they manage to have fun though their daily shenanigans.
The dragon is a Psychotic little devil who was banished from her home world into earth. (glowing dragon drawn by me)

Im planning for it to have a fun slice of life tone. however an underlying plot will be hinted but will not take of in this episode/short film.

The plot will probably be for more backstory reasons or something.
